I've written about this in other posts but thought it might be a good idea to repeat again: When it comes to hard drives (internal or external), I only buy Western Digital, or Seagate, and avoid everything made by LaCie and Maxtor. Why? Because after all these years, I've never had a Western Digital or Seagate drive fail on me, while I've had multiple LaCie and Maxtor drives fail.

I'd knock seagate off that list. I thought they were dead solid for years, but they really screwed up on their 1.5TB drives. They need a firmware update that requires a esata connection (which my laptop doesn't have) or you'll loose access to your data. Just do a search on the web and you'll learn that they really screwed things up lately.
